On September 18th, 2021, several Carpet One Floor & Home stores collaborated on the Tunnel to Towers 5K run that returned to Asheville, NC, for the fifth time after taking a year off due to the pandemic. The Carpet One stores that were involved in this amazing event were Carpet One Floor & Home Gainesville, Stinson Carpet One Floor & Home, Barry Neal Carpet One Floor & Home, Carpet One Floor & Home of Central Florida, and Carpet One Floor & Home - Asheville.
At this year’s Tunnel to Towers 5K, there were 150 people registered, which made it the largest turnout in the event’s history. The event attracts local fire, police, and emergency medical personnel together alongside their community to run for a great cause. Proceeds from this event went to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting veterans and their families. The foundation has raised over 250 million dollars which have been used to build over 450 mortgage-free homes for returning soldiers who are injured. Additionally, the foundation also honors the sacrifice of NYC firefighter, Stephen Siller, who laid down his life to save others on 9/11. Stephen Siller ran through the tunnel and made it all the way to the towers to save citizens trapped in the World Trade Center towers. This race is dedicated to remembering Siller’s honorable actions and his sacrifice.
